then look no further than a Scottish castle wedding. Scottish
castles make truly imaginative wedding venues. Below are a
selection of Scottish castles and abbeys, each set in beautiful,
well maintained surroundings ... I highly recommend Dundrennan
Abbey, which I believe is one of the most idyllic wedding

 DUNDRENNAN
ABBEY
Near Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway,
south west Scotland
Mary
Queen of Scots spent her last night on Scottish soil
in this Cistercian abbey founded by David I. The Abbey,
built in the second half of the 12th century, stands
in a small and secluded valley. Its remoteness is in
keeping with the strict rules and observances of the
Cistercian order.
Dundrennan
Abbey is one of the loveliest settings I know of in
which to be married.

 MACLELLAN'S
CASTLE
Kirkcudbright Town Centre, Dumfries and Galloway, south
west Scotland
Built
in 1577 using stone from an adjoining ruined monastery
by the then Provost, Sir Thomas MacLellan, this castellated
town house has fine architectural details and its proximity
to the town centre services of the attractive historic
harbour town of Kirkcudbright make it a popular wedding
location.

 CARDONESS
CASTLE
Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway, south west
Scotland
The
ancient home of the McCullochs, this 15th-century four-storey
tower house stands on a rocky platform above the Water
of Fleet. The fireplaces in the great and upper halls
are particularly fine.

 SWEETHEART
ABBEY
New
Abbey, Dumfries and Galloway, south west Scotland
The
splendid remains of a late 13th and early 14th-century
Cistercian abbey founded by Devorgilla, Lady of Galloway,
in memory of her husband John Baliol. Devorgilla is
buried in the presbytery with a casket containing her
husband's embalmed heart.

 THREAVE
CASTLE
Nr Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, south west
Scotland
This
massive tower, situated on an island in the River Dee,
was built by Archibald the Grim in the late 14th-century
and was later the stronghold of the Black Douglases.
Ring the bell and the custodian will come to ferry you
over.
It's
wonderfully romantic inaccessibility makes Threave Castle
only suitable for small wedding parties.

 CAERLAVEROCK
CASTLE
Nr Dumfries, south west Scotland
Caerlaverock
(Lark's Nest), one of Scotland's finest castles, is
